My graduating class consisted of myself (retail manager), a girl with BS in a field relating to CSI, a former Navy pilot, a warehouse manager, a twenty-year old kid, and a man that hung sheetrock as a living before coming to school.įor work, several service centers are hiring right now and likely will be in two years as well. Your BS in mathematics will assist you in some of the theoretical aspects of watchmaking where physics or mid-level mathematics are used to determine gearing ratios, spring lengths, etc. The atmosphere is a much lighter one than you'll find at Lititz with the professors willing to laugh or crack an occasional joke.įacility wise, I do not hesitate to say that OSUIT is the most well funded and well supplied school in the States. Since you have a BS already, you probably won't have to take many (if any) other classes. The watchmaking courses are credited course and you'll achieve an Associates of Applied Science while there. OSUIT is a part of Oklahoma State University. Part of this is due to the school being 'free' (must provide your own lodging, food, etc) and due to the prestige of the Lititz name. You may have a more difficult time gaining admission to Lititz as they have a very long waiting list. You will receive the exact same certifications, skills, and work experience at either OSUIT or Lititz. ![]() They are very, very serious about their watchmaking and that comes across in how the classes and students are handled. I believe they would rather teach an inexperienced person the right way to do something than break a life of bad habits on someone who is self taught.Īs for Lititz, my impression is that the school is much more somber than what my experience at OSUIT was. They will teach you how to use the tools, how to make your own tools, and how to work on watches. Before entering watchmaking school, I managed a Gamestop. When I say no experience, I mean I had 0 experience. I'm not sure my family is so enthusiastic about the idea however. I've got a BS in Mathematics that I haven't really found a great use for yet, and while watchmaking seems like a rather unorthodox (but certainly relevant) direction to go, I'm certainly excited about it and suspect that if it's something I really want to do, now would be the time to do it. I'm also curious what sort of people tend to make up the students as these schools. While I expect I will probably be impressed by the facilities, at this point I am mostly curious to speak to current and graduated students and find out their impressions and what sort of jobs are available amongst the big companies and independent opportunities as well. formal or classical, though admittedly this is based solely on the youtube videos I've seen from them and from OSUIT. ![]() Do you think there is much difference amongst the schools in terms of facilities and atmosphere? My impression is that Lititz is more. I am planning on checking out the Lititz Watch Technicum and must admit I am a bit intimidated. Does no experience mean no professional experience or no experience at all? I would think for something as demanding and uhh, niche? as watchmaking they would certainly want people who are proven to be enthusiastic and dedicated about it.
